DESCRIPTION
In 2008, when Templar published their collector's classic edition of Alice in Wonderland, Matthews achieved his lifelong ambition to illustrate the most well known children's story ever written. He had waited for this opportunity since the age of six, ever since his sister Beryl had taken him to see the Walt Disney movie in 1951. Matthews' "wonderland" is sinister, capturing the darker essence of Lewis Carroll's tale. In addition to the many coloured pieces, fourteen pencil drawings were also featured in the book, of which this is one.
This pencil drawing resulted in a colour work, retitled 'The Mock Turtle's Story' which was included in the book and has also been published as a limited edition print.

Condition (reflected in the price): Foxing* in several areas (this has occurred due to past storage in damp conditions - removing the artwork from such conditions has ceased the foxing process)
* When paper is made, traces of metal from the machine can sometimes make their way into the paper's fibres. If this happens and the paper is then exposed to moisture - via high humidity or damp - the metal traces begin to oxidise. This process causes a discolouration in the form of yellow spots or blotches. The ideal environment for artwork should be cool, dry and stable.
