The Heavy Metal Hero - Preliminary II original pencil drawing
The second and more detailed sketch of one of Matthews’ most popular and enduring images. Inspired by his father's working model of The Flying Scotsman, the now iconic train was originally designed for a poster. It was later licensed by Silmarils as the cover art for their video game Transarctica, then by Diamond Head for their 'Am I Evil?' album cover, and then by Ride, as one of ten Matthews designs to appear on their snowboards. Most recently, the image inspired a track for Matthews' album Trinity.
