Vortex magazine: The Crab original preparatory sketch
Vortex magazine: The Crab original preparatory sketch
DESCRIPTION
This preparatory sketch precedes the full colour image commissioned by Vortex magazine. The finished image was intended as a front cover, but unused due to the early demise of the company. The crab itself is derived from an earlier Matthews artwork, drawn in 1966, where it appeared on a single coloured poster advertising a band!

* When paper is made, traces of metal from the machine can sometimes make their way into the paper's fibres. If this happens and the paper is then exposed to moisture - via high humidity or damp - the metal traces begin to oxidise. This process causes a discolouration in the form of yellow spots or blotches. The ideal environment for artwork should be cool, dry and stable.
