The Rolling Stones: Painted Black original pencil drawing
The Rolling Stones: Painted Black original pencil drawing
DESCRIPTION
Commissioned in 2016 for a collectors anthology of live 1960s broadcasts by The Rolling Stones. This is the concluding image in Matthews’ epic Stones trilogy; preceded by 'Time on Our Side' and 'Another Time, Another Place II'.
'Painted Black' is a going home statement, in which the original skeletal black ship from which they departed, has now returned to take them away. The six-legged mechanical Death's-head is another requisition from their spoils of war. Perhaps, it will be taken aboard? Their departure is quietly observed by the empty eye sockets of an orbiting satellite, in turn orbited by two electrons, suggesting a helium aspect.
